I was a cartography major at East Central University. It is a pretty good program. We learn ESRI ArcView, a little about Arc/Info, some ENVI, and a little about a lot of other things.
I am now working as a transportation planner at the West Alabama Regional Commission. I have worked on several projects, including a regional transit plan and Alabama's first rural planning organization. Here are some useful links to learn more about cartography and GIS.
