Russel Taylor's Linux Page I hope to get some more information on this page, including some screenshots or something. But for now, I will just include a couple of links to some of my favorite linux sites.
Linux Mint. Linux Mint is another version of linux based on Ubuntu. Like most (all?) Ubuntu-based distros, it is a live cd. It is a great distro that is moving along at lightning speed. It is a really exciting distro. Mepis Linux. Mepis Linux is based on Ubuntu Linux, which in turn is based on Debian Linux. Mepis is a really great version of Linux to start with. It is a live cd, so you can test whether or not it works before you install it. Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu Linux is a really good version of Linux. I prefer Mepis, but for some reason Mepis doesn't like my wifi card. So, I am using Ubuntu on my home computer. SuSE Linux. A really good RPM based distribution. One problem with it is it is difficult to upgrade packages that are already included on the cd/dvd. Mandrake Linux. Used to be a really nice RPM based distribution. Lately it seems like it is full of bugs. Tucows. The linux section of tucows.com. Openoffice.org. The best office software for linux (or windows, in my opinion. You can't go wrong with free!) Parallels. Lets you run lots of different operating systems. Run Windows in Linux, Linux in Linux, or Linux in Windows, etc. It does work well. XFce4. A great window manager. It is really fast and good looking. It just keeps on getting better and better. It's really awesome. |
